	There are many weight loss supplements on the market, but most are scientifically untested and simply don't work. Cambridge-trained scientist, Dr. Lauren Mackenzie has reviewed the 20 most popular diet pills (not the 20 best--we wanted to defuse the hype about some problematic, but popular pills). Unlike any other "diet guide" we're aware of, we list the number of scientific clinical trials conducted on each product--the key metric for judging effectiveness. Even so, there are no "miracle pills" out there, and use of diet pills should be in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise, and under your doctor's advice.

		= Value = Efficiency = Ill Effects Value Rating: Includes prices of the weight loss supplements and our assessment of the "slimming value" you actually get for your money. Efficiency Rating: Our opinion of how well the slimming pill helps you lose weight--this is not always the quickest loss claimed, as we prize healthy, steady weight loss higher than quick loss likely to rebound. Ill Effects: This is our take on the level of side effects most users may expect to experience. It is the least "scientific" rating, relying mainly on reports we've gathered from the net. Dieters with questions on side effects should question the manufacturer and their doctor. Mode of Action: In a nutshell, how a given slimming pill works. Principal Side Effects: The main side effect or two associated with a given pill--see the slimming pill's own website for more comprehensive lists of currently known side effects. Cost: Prices for one month's supply of the diet pills/supplements. In many cases bulk deals are available which can cut the cost as much as half, so these best prices are cited here. Clinical Trials: Only some diet pills have actual clinical trials performed by independent researchers to back up their claims. We only list the trials we've been able to verify (or mention it in our review if they are questionable, or particularly small trials, etc.). This is the most important metric we use to evaluate diet pills' effectiveness , but more isn't always better--Xenical may have 100 trials, but we're confident that Phase 2 with only 18 works just fine, and without the messiness...
