Dancing with the Stars: Dance Off the Pounds is an excellent, fun way of shedding the pounds, but the moves are a bit complicated for some. This workout isn't for everyone, but is a bestseller and favorite of many who watch ABC's hit series Dancing with the Stars.
As many viewers of the show have noted as they watched the B-list celeb participants shed pounds week after week, dancing is an excellent cardio workout, and there's no reason it won't work at home. By using all the major muscle groups you can get excellent cardiovascular benefits. Even the posture of well-executed dancing--holding your head up, shoulders back, ribcage in, etc.--alter your perception of your body, as well as others' perception of you, which is an added benefit most workouts won't deliver.
In fact, if you can look at it as "dancing" instead of "exercise" and treat it as fun, you have a much better chance of sticking with the routine long enough to see real results.
Dancing with the Stars: Dance Off the Pounds features three of the series' professional dancers, Kym, Lacey, and Dmitry.
Content: There are three routines and 54 minutes of content on the disc, and you can choose from Swing, Jive, and Quickstep. Each routine starts with a warmup and progressively adds more complicated moves, contributing to quite a demanding workout. Of course, for an ideal workout, one of the three workouts isn't enough to get into aerobic fat-burning mode, so you should do two (or all three if you're really committed and have the time).
If you can't get enough of Dancing with the Stars, there is also another disc, Dancing with the Stars: Dance Body Tone
, which has three different routines--a Latin combo, a jazzy-funk Freestyle, and a Tango, all with the same three dancers.
Prices: The Dancing with the Stars: Dance Off the Pounds retails for $17, but you can get it much cheaper on Amazon for around $10.
