Dance Off the Inches: Hip Hop Party remains one of the country's most popular fitness DVDs, and with good cause, as it's an excellent, fun dance workout. Dancer Jennifer Galardi leads this workout which uses three different styles of Hip Hop to work off the calories.
The advantage Dance off the Inches: Hip Hop Party has over other fitness workouts is it's fun--if you can look at your workout as fun, rather than "exercise", you have a much better chance of sticking with the routine long enough to see real weight loss results. In fact, this DVD is more dance with an aerobic twist, as opposed to so many DVDs in this genre which are more aerobics with a dance twist.
This is hip hop, so expect to do a lot of gyrating and such with your hips. These moves target the abs in particular, in a way which is rare without having to resort to crunches. If you're really out of shape, this might not be the workout for you though, as it really is quite a demanding aerobic routine.
Customer comments are overwhelmingly positive, raving that it's more intense than they thought, but easy to learn. The four background dancers are also of varying skill levels, which many viewers find reassuring. As this isn't some professional troupe, you can also see slightly different ways to do the moves, so you don't get hung up on following the moves perfectly. The only recurrent negatives we found mentioned the music was a bit tame by hip hop standards, but then again musical taste is very subjective, and this clearly hasn't stopped Hip Hop Party from being one of America's top fitness DVDs.
Content: Unlike some dance workouts we've seen , this one has only ten basic moves to assemble into a pretty demanding and fun hip hop dance routine. There is even a separate chapter on the DVD which is used to learn the moves in half-speed time--this way Jennifer doesn't have to slow down in the main workout. In fact, you should really start with this bit a couple times before starting the actual workout, or you can get lost very quickly.
The actual dance goes through three different Hip Hop style combinations, gradually combining the steps into each routine.
Prices: The Dance Off the Inches: Hip Hop Party retails for $15, but you can get it much cheaper on Amazon for around $10.
